Can You Have Fun While Exam Preparation?

5

Of course, studying may be enjoyable, and learning can co-occur. Exam prep and assignment study don’t have to be the terrifying or draining experiences many students have learned to dread. The advice provided below was given to me by students who have perfected the art of studying to the point that they are achieving much higher grades and enjoying themselves. It shouldn’t take up all of your time to learn. One trick is to not take the work too seriously to the point that you isolate yourself from the outside world.

your surroundings

Take charge of your surroundings. The setting of your studies has a significant impact on the results. You effectively increase the comfort of the task by taking control of your study environment. You might not think cramming into a small area with stale air would be distracting, but it is! The more oxygen in the blood, the better able you are to gain good brain function and the more regular blood flow the brain needs to function normally. First, let’s think about temperature:

• Maintain a little cooler-than-normal indoor temperature. The body’s blood flow is stimulated when it’s a little on the cool side. You are aware of how energizing a crisp, cool fall day is. Set the air conditioning at a lower temperature than usual during the summer. Set the thermostat to 60–65 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter. Open a window to let some fresh air in, and you might even think about using a fan to bring in even more.

• While tranquility and peace are necessary for practical focus, this does not imply that “silence is golden.” If you can, keep the music instrumental; vocalists should be avoided. No heavy metal, rap, or hip-hop options. And don’t play it loud enough to shatter windows; keep it in the background.

• Venetian blinds or shades should be raised because natural sunlight is the healthiest illumination source. Use plenty of incandescent light if it is after dark. Please be kind and avoid fluorescent light because I think it’s, at best unhealthy.

• Your preferences should be considered while furnishing any room you utilize. Whether you are in the center of a room or out in the open, surround yourself with familiar objects because you are trying to prevent distraction.

Become at ease

I won’t advise you to study while seated on a wooden bench, a chair with a straight back, or any other uncomfortably designed piece of furniture. You are not performing penance in a monastery or nunnery. Feel at ease. My recliner is my preferred option. I have tables on either side, and I also have a table lamp. Before starting to study, decide what supplies, such as pencils, pens, books, and notebooks, you might need nearby.

Put on relaxed clothing. If wearing pajamas and a bathrobe makes you feel more at ease, that’s fine. Don’t wear anything too restrictive. Keep in mind that your body needs blood flow.

A voice recorder should also be carried about. Later, more on that.

It’s okay to snack too!

It’s a good idea to keep snacks and refreshing beverages nearby but pick healthy options like almonds, raw vegetables, or trail mix. Caffeine-containing drinks should be avoided as they will only physically stimulate you and have no natural effect on improving memory. Lemonade without added sugar is my favorite. It is gratifying and won’t trigger any more hyperactivity. Sucralose is a sweetener I like to use. Aspartame, in my opinion, was a cruel trick the US Food and Drug Administration played on us.

Management of time

Studying shouldn’t turn into an endless procedure. Your ability to retain information is improved by keeping your study sessions short. You might need to do some testing on this. Start by doing brief study sessions of up to an hour. You could extend this to two hours if you’re comfortable. The idea is to take a break after a set amount of study time. Get up and stretch your legs for 15 to 20 minutes, and then return to it. After a few such bursts, take a brisk walk, make a friend call, or finish up some correspondence.

Spend a few minutes going over the material you studied during the prior session each time you return to your study. A voice recorder can be helpful in this situation. Use the writer to capture quick facts—the topic’s highlights—during your study time. Don’t forget that blind kids study as well as sighted students, and many of them excel at it. Most of what we learn comes from the sight pictures we acquire from reading text and watching illustrations.

Time management should also avoid distractions, so teach your loved ones to respect your study periods.

the use of visual cues

Students with vision have an advantage when revising for tests and other activities. Students with trouble seeing can use handwritten notes and sketches as memory aids. Many children have understood the value of using highlighters, colored pencils, and pens. Despite how absurd it may sound, drawing your cartoons—even with stick figures—can help you remember some complex material or mathematics.

The whole picture is not what you are studying.

It makes sense that you would be much more engrossed in a television movie or a sporting event. Even though your subject may not be as humorous as the most recent “Big Bang Theory” episode you missed, studying the material in front of you will improve your ability to manage life’s many demands. After all, even if you could be learning complicated theory, complex math, or complicated chemical formulas, you are also learning how your future life might develop.

Do Not Lead Us Into Temptation

When trying to concentrate, temptation is your enemy. Yes, there are many things you’d rather be doing, but once you go into the real world and start making your own vehicle and house payments, energy bills, and family arrangements, life will place demands on you. Studying will help you be better equipped to handle whatever life may throw at you so that it will be time well spent.

When you get disinterested in the topic at hand, it is pretty simple to give in to temptation. But maintaining your self-imposed schedule will put you ahead of your peers, and obtaining good grades is all about having an advantage.

Being “Average” does not require a high level of intelligence. You should want to be considerably above average as one of your objectives. You will join the ranks of responsible, diligent people who appear to have it all when you can see the overall advantages of constant study. It’s true what they say: “Luck is the lazy person’s idea of success.” Bring luck to yourself!

This post has provided a solution to your query about having fun while learning. Anyone may create joy. You have every right to think that studying is a tedious waste of time. Looking, though, may be entertaining if you approach each hour you spend plowing through the books as a step toward a more secure future.
