Adam Plant Jr. Wants to Play For His Hometown Raiders

Adam Plant Jr. has made great strides since that second-half sack as an eighth grader. Since then, he’s lived out his football dreams, first at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas before Arizona and TCU, and finally finishing collegiate play at UNLV.

The Raiders took notice and signed him as an Unrestricted Free Agent this offseason, allowing him to compete for a roster spot during training camp.

PERSONAL

Adam Plant Jr. relishes every second of playing for his hometown Raiders this season as part of training camp. A product of Bishop Gorman High School and UNLV Rebel linebacker teams, Adam is seeking his place among them as they attempt to secure his future on their roster.

Plant, 23, takes his uphill fight as an undrafted free agent in stride, showing up well during organized team activities (OTAs). Veteran players like Chandler Jones and Maxx Crosby gave him valuable feedback, helping him develop his game further. In addition, Plant made an impression at UNLV Pro Day with his 4.85 40-yard dash time and 19 reps on bench press.

“He is an exceptional young player with the characteristics you look for when selecting edge players – speed and length in particular – as well as maturity, intelligence, and work ethic qualities which sometimes cannot be evaluated at a combine,” Raiders Head Coach Josh McDaniels stated when speaking to media Thursday about Plant.

The Raiders have few edge rushers after Chandler Jones and Maxx Crosby, and Plant could make an immediate, impactful statement by earning himself a roster spot. He faces competition from Jordan Willis, Malcolm Koonce, Nesta Jade Silvera, and George Tarlas but has talent and a work ethic that could propel him toward NFL glory. Adam Plant Sr. can still recall Adam Plant Jr.’s second-half sack vividly; his son’s journey toward NFL success has only just started!

ATHLETIC

Adam Plant Jr. is one of Las Vegas’s burgeoning NFL talents, having represented Bishop Gorman High School before making an impression college football debut for UNLV Rebels. Adam’s dream has come true – playing for their hometown team.

Plant can still recall his first game at All-American Park when he was eight years old, as an 8-year-old defensive end facing an edge rusher who came blazing off the line of scrimmage and hit him square in the chin – it was one of the hardest hits he’d taken up until that point in life. It became his motivation to keep playing and never give up.

After an outstanding career there, Plant is ready to take his skills beyond UNLV, possessing all the characteristics desired by the Raiders when searching for undrafted free agents (UDFA). He’s already proven that he will make an invaluable addition to their roster.

At OTAs, Plant has impressed defense coaches and veteran players as someone eager to learn, ready to work hard, and dedicated to his game. His work ethic has caught Chandler Jones’s attention. At the same time, Plant has taken every opportunity available to learn from some of the greatest in his profession – all while having to compete for 53-man roster spots himself! Regardless of his odds of making 53-man roster status with the Raiders.

EDGE RUSHING

Adam Plant has vivid memories of his first experience playing football at All-American Park in Las Vegas when he was only eight. That day at left tackle, an edge rusher came blazing off the line of scrimmage and struck right through him directly in the face – it was Adam who felt his first hit from defense!

After that initial sack, Plant was inspired to pursue his goal of playing at a higher level and now finds himself with his hometown team, the Raiders – it truly feels like his dream has come true!

Plant has made his mark since leaving Bishop Gorman High School at age 16, playing football at Arizona and TCU before finally finding himself with UNLV as an undergraduate student. Now a UDFA with the Raiders after an impressive 2023 campaign that saw seven sacks, three forced fumbles, 55 total tackles, and seven forced fumbles, Plant is eager to maximize this chance and contribute in any way he can to their storied franchise.

PASS RUSHING

Adam Plant Jr.’s first experience watching an NFL game live at All-American Park in Las Vegas as an 8-year-old was marked by being hit square in the face by an opposing defensive end, making this encounter his most intense physical contact ever – it made him realize he needed to alter something about his game for tremendous success at that level.

This undrafted free agent hopes to have the same impact on the Raiders as he vies to be included on their 53-man roster. He signed with them as an undrafted free agent after an outstanding 2023 campaign with the Rebels that saw him amass seven sacks and three forced fumbles.

Sorenson has made an impressive start to his rookie season in silver and black, learning from veteran leaders such as Chandler Jones and Maxx Crosby and emulating them in class and practice to find his path through NFL life.

The Raiders hope their work pays off during the regular season when Plant will join veterans like Miller as part of an improved pass-rushing attack featuring Crosby, Micah Parsons, and Cam Jordan – not forgetting newcomers like Crosby, Micah Parsons, and Jordan themselves! His presence also allows Miller a break as he transitions into the coaching side of the front office, thus giving him time to focus on his craft while continuing to help teammates develop.
